Advantech's
ADAM-4000 Remote I/O Solution Enables Modbus System Integration

Did
you know that 60% of the existing control systems worldwide
support Modbus Network? The Modbus protocol has become a de
facto standard for data exchange and information communication
in industrial network applications targeting facility
automation markets.
ADAM-4000 Modbus I/O Product Series
In view of integrating with SCADA/PLC/DCS systems as a complete
remote I/O solution, Advantech introduced the ADAM-4000 Modbus
series, consisting of:
| ADAM-4015-B |
6-channel
RTD Module with Modbus |
| ADAM-4017+-B |
8-channel
Analog Input Module with Modbus |
| ADAM-4018+-B |
8-channel
Thermocouple Input Module with Modbus |
| ADAM-4024-B |
4-channel
Analog Output Module with Modbus |
| ADAM-4051-B |
16-channel
Isolated Digital Input w/LED Module with Modbus |
| ADAM-4055-B |
16-channel
Isolated Digital I/O w/LED Module with Modbus |
| ADAM-4068-B |
8-channel
Relay Output Module with Modbus |
The total
Modbus I/O series supports Modbus/RTU protocol as the remote
data transmission mechanism, providing easy-integration to any
controller bearing Modbus/RTU standard. In addition to Modbus
network support, these ADAM-4000 modules also feature a robust
and intelligent design of system diagnostic function and safety
setting capability, offering users an easy-to-use, cost-effective
remote monitoring and control system.
With built-in
Modbus/RTU protocol, the ADAM-4000 Modbus I/O is endowed with
easy plug-in system integration capabilities. Aside from effortless
integration with controllers carrying Modbus/RTU standard, ADAM-4572
can upgrade the ADAM-4000 I/O modules to the Modbus/TCP Ethernet
layer. Moreover, most HMI software is bundled with Modbus driver
and can access the ADAM-4000 I/O directly.
Different
from other ADAM I/O modules, the ADAM-4000 Modbus I/O proves
itself more robust and reliable by providing multi-type signal
input and diverse signal range settings. It offers users a self-diagnostic
design with burned-out detection function when problems with
wire openings occur. These functionalities enable system reliability
in environment monitoring, power SCADA monitoring, and factory
automation markets.
The ADAM-4000 Modbus series is the best remote I/O selection
for any Modbus system integration, bringing users the benefits
of centralized monitoring and control, easy maintenance and
troubleshooting, efficient data collection and archiving, as
well as simplified reporting and analysis to reduce cost and
help them meet their objectives of return-on-investment.
Below are some sample ADAM-4000 Modbus I/O System Architectures.
Sample
Architecture 1:
Integration with Operator Interface Panel |
The
Operator Interface Panel is widely installed on field site
to monitor and control a single equipment or a small process
unit. It is usually designed with pre-built graphic display
as users’ standard operation interface. Many well-known
operator interface panel manufacturers worldwide, such as
Pro-face, Mapple System, Allen Bradley, and so on support
the common communication standard – Modbus. The ADAM-4000
Modbus I/O series will be the most suitable remote I/O solution
to integrate with these operator interface panels.
 |
|
|
| Benefits:
|

Compatible with any Operator Interface Panel

Easy I/O mapping to pre-built graphic display

Flexible network capacity based on remote architecture |
Sample
Architecture 2:
Integration with SCADA Server |
The
SCADA server works as a control center in a Data Acquisition
& Control System. The HMI software package installed
in the SCADA server allows users to configure their own
operation display and communication network. Nowadays, most
HMI S/W is equipped with Modbus driver and the Modbus OPC
server is the alternative interface to link with Modbus
devices. Therefore, the ADAM-4000 Modbus I/O series is certainly
the best remote I/O solution to connect to the SCADA server.
 |
|
|
| Benefits:
|

Compatible to most HMI software

Easy to build & maintain in I/O database

Flexible network capacity for both Serial and Ethernet networking |
Sample
Architecture 3:
Integration with DCS/ PLC Control System |
DCS
or PLC controllers are targeted to handle critical applications
on the factory floor. However, the remote I/O architectures
are usually expensive and complex, especially when you need
to expand the I/O modules from the existing system. The
ADAM-4000 Modbus I/O series is the best alternative solution
for these remote systems. Many PLC/DCS systems, such as
GE and Schneider, are equipped with Modbus interface, so
users can easily integrate ADAM-4000 Modbus I/O into a DCS/PLC
control system.
 |
|
|
| Benefits:
|

Easy integration with DCS/PLC Control System

A cost-effective remote I/O solution for system expansion
requirements

Suitable for application in widely-distributed monitoring
& control
systems
