Advantech introduces the FPM-3150G series of 15" LCD industrial monitors, including FPM-3150G-U, which is its first flat panel monitor with USB interface for the touch screen. The Plug & Play feature offered by USB makes configuration of the touch screen simpler and faster than with the more common RS-232 interface offered by FPM-3150G-R.

Known for its Plug & Play feature, USB shows potential to replace the more commonly used RS-232 port. When using an RS-232 port, users need to go through a configuration process and set up connections to other peripherals. With USB, the user simply needs to plug it in. FPM-3150G-U is therefore ideally suited to newcomers, and effectively reduces configuration time.

Johnson Wang, product manager at Advantech, pointed out; "with more and more new machinery designs with USB interfaces, the USB port of FPM-3150G-U is there to meet increasing market demand. FPM-3150G is Advantech's first attempt in using a USB interface for a touch screen, but we believe it will soon become common. It's clearly a market trend."

The USB interface of FPM-3150G-U brings an additional advantage. Because of USB's power transmission function, there is no need for a power supply cable for the touch screen controller board. The total power consumption is under 100 mA, which fits the USB standard.

The new 15" flat panel monitors of the FPM-3150 series have industrial grade features, such as NEMA4/IP65, an anti-reflective screen with tempered glass, and hard anodic coating to protect the panel from abrasion and acid corrosion.

To further improve reliability, Advantech has specially redesigned the DC IN power cord, the AC/DC power adapter and USB cable. With extra brackets to fasten cords with connectors, the power cords are now more firmly attached, reducing the risk of operation termination. In addition, by using quality parts like TDK® inverters and 3M® touch screen sensors, Advantech can provide higher and more reliable quality.
