Advantech
Extends Ethernet Data Gateway Family for Rear Wiring Requirements
Advantech
has released two more products to its Ethernet Data Gateway
Family. EDG-4508R+ and EDG-4516R+ connect up to 8/16 RS-232/422/485
devices to an Ethernet network for easier access and remote
management. Each serial port has rear wiring with 15,000
Vesd protection against static electricity. This makes it
suitable for applications in telecommunications, factory
automation, SCADA systems, warehouse control, building automation,
self-service banking systems and large-scale retail systems.

PEDG-4508R+
and EDG-4516R+ have rear wiring to make it more suitable
and easier to maintain while mounted in a 19" rack.
This is a feature commonly requested by telecommunications
companies, but is also popular in other areas. Wiring has
been simplified by using RJ48 instead of DB9 connectors
for the serial ports, and for easier monitoring there are
Tx/Rx LED indicators on the front for all serial ports,
as well as the mode and power indicators.
Configuration
for serial device control can be completed via an Ethernet
network, remotely through the web, through its four digital
input and four digital output channels, or by the V.24 console
port. You therefore have a wide range of choices for how
you want to control your serial devices.
Drivers
are available for Windows®98/NT/2000 and XP. Both EDG-4508R+
and EDG-4516R+ are scheduled to be available in the late
December 2004. Contact an Advantech sales representative

can benefit your business.
